Preview line: A free AI front desk, Gemini’s new small-business hub, and two tools we’d leave alone for now.

Welcome to the first issue. Each week we look at new AI tools the way a good CFO would: what does it cost, what does it save, and what are you giving up to use it? Prices and links below come from each company’s own site, checked October 20, 2026. Time and money savings are our estimates, not vendor promises.

Job: Handle customer support

Deskee — deskee.io

What it does: It puts an AI assistant on your website (and, if you want, on email, phone, SMS and Telegram). The assistant answers customer questions from your own content and passes the conversation to you when a person is needed.

  • Estimated savings: Estimate: 2–4 hours a week if you answer 20+ routine “do you offer X / what does it cost” questions a week. The bigger win is enquiries that arrive after hours and would otherwise go cold.
  • Setup time: The company says “minutes”: point it at your site, paste one line of code. Budget an hour to test answers before going live.
  • Pricing (as listed): Free: 1 chatbot, 25 AI conversations a month, no card needed. Pro: £25/month or £250/year, 250 conversations a month. Extra conversations cost £15 per 250. Deskee says the same number applies in dollars and euros.
  • Privacy / lock-in: UK company (Deskee Ltd). Its privacy policy says the built-in AI runs through OpenAI (US) and Amazon Bedrock (London), and that neither trains on your conversations. You can connect your own ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini account instead. Lock-in is low because your content stays on your own site. It’s a new company (launched October 5, 2026), so expect some rough edges.

Verdict: TRY. The free plan costs nothing and needs no card, so the only risk is an afternoon. Give it a month before you pay.

Job: Make content faster

Gemini’s new small-business tools — gemini.google.com

What it does: Google’s Gemini app has a new business hub. You give it your website, fonts and colors once, and it makes on-brand visuals. It can also turn messy spreadsheets and receipts into charts, and it connects to apps like Canva, Shopify, Wix, Xero and Google Business Profile.

  • Estimated savings: Estimate: 1–3 hours a week on social graphics and launch visuals, if you currently make them by hand or brief a freelancer. (One ceramicist in Google’s announcement says she saves 2–3 hours a day. That’s Google’s story, not our test.)
  • Setup time: About 30 minutes to upload brand assets and connect apps.
  • Pricing (as listed): Google says the features are “beginning to roll out in the coming days globally for all Gemini app users.” The Gemini app has a free tier. Google AI Pro, which gives higher usage limits, is listed at $19.99/month. We couldn’t confirm which features or usage limits come with the free tier versus paid plans. The rollout began today (Oct 20), so your account may not have it yet.
  • Privacy / lock-in: This is the important one. On personal Gemini accounts, Google’s privacy hub says chats may be used to improve its models and that some may be read by human reviewers while “Keep Activity” is on. Turn Keep Activity off before you upload financials or client data, or use a Google Workspace business account. Lock-in is low because your files stay in your own Drive or apps.

Verdict: ADOPT (for brand visuals). It’s low-cost, from a vendor that isn’t going anywhere, and it does a job you’re probably paying for in hours. Fix the privacy setting first.

Job: Write my sales emails

Singulate Studio — singulate.com/studio

What it does: You describe the email you want to send. It writes and designs the email from your website, then tailors parts of it for each person on your list, and nothing goes out until you approve it.

  • Estimated savings: Estimate: 1–2 hours for each campaign you’d otherwise write in several versions. Singulate reports 74% higher click rates on personalized versions across its customers’ emails. That’s the company’s own data, and it says the results are “observational, not a guaranteed lift.”
  • Setup time: About 15–30 minutes: add your site and upload a contact spreadsheet. No CRM needed.
  • Pricing (as listed): 14-day free trial (card required), then $49/month at the launch price ($99 list, according to its press release). That covers one seat and 3,000 emails a month. Extra emails cost $12 per 1,000.
  • Privacy / lock-in: You send from your own domain or Gmail, or export a CSV to the email tool you already use, so lock-in is low. We couldn’t find a clear statement on how Singulate handles the contact lists you upload. Its public privacy policy only covers website visitors. Ask before you upload client data.

Verdict: TRY. It’s worth one trial campaign to your warmest list. Stay only if the clicks beat your current numbers by enough to cover $49 a month. Cancel before day 14 if they don’t.

Job: Bookkeeping / admin

YourAILedger — yourailedger.com

What it does: It’s an AI bookkeeping assistant (“Allie”) that sorts receipts and bank statements, suggests categories with explanations, and reconciles your accounts once you approve.

  • Estimated savings: Estimate: 1–2 hours a month for a simple solo business. That’s similar to what you’d get from the automation in the accounting software you probably already use.
  • Setup time: Not verified. Plan for half a day or more if you’re moving existing books.
  • Pricing (as listed): Starter $29/month, Professional $59/month, Gold $99/month, Enterprise $199/month. 14-day free trial, no card required.
  • Privacy / lock-in: Switching bookkeeping systems costs a lot, and your accountant has to accept the output. The site says it does not provide tax, CPA or financial advice. Several pages on its site load with a different product name (“LedgerFlow”), and we couldn’t confirm data-handling details.

Verdict: SKIP (for now). Your books are the last place to experiment with a brand-new vendor. Ask again in six months.

IrisGo for Solopreneurs — irisgo.ai/solopreneur

What it does: It’s a desktop app for Mac and Windows. You do a task once while it watches, such as email triage, meeting recaps or expense reports, and it then repeats that task for you in the background.

  • Estimated savings: Estimate: potentially 2+ hours a week on repetitive admin, if it works reliably. We haven’t seen independent testing yet.
  • Setup time: About 30 minutes to install and demonstrate your first workflow.
  • Pricing (as listed): “Free during the beta.” No paid plans are published and no end date for the beta is given.
  • Privacy / lock-in: By design it watches your screen and apps. The company says it processes data mostly on your device and only sees what you consent to. Lock-in grows with every workflow you teach it, and you don’t know what it will cost later.

Verdict: SKIP (for now). The idea is promising, but giving a beta app full view of your screen, with unknown future pricing, isn’t a good trade yet. Watch for a pricing page.

Workflow of the week: Launch a new offer in one afternoon

  1. Gemini (visuals): Upload your brand kit once, then ask for a launch graphic and three social posts for the new offer.
  2. Singulate Studio (email): Brief it on the offer, attach the graphic, and let it write a version for each person on your past-client spreadsheet. Approve, then send from your own domain.
  3. Deskee (follow-up): Add the offer’s details and FAQs to your site so the Deskee assistant can answer “how much / when / is it right for me?” questions that evening. Anything serious gets handed to you.

Estimated cost: $0 to start (Gemini free tier, Deskee free plan, Singulate 14-day trial), then about $49–$100/month if you keep everything. Estimated time: about 2–3 hours, compared with a day or more done by hand. Both figures are our estimates.

The bottom line: Pick one job that’s costing you time this week and give one tool a 14-day trial. That’s how you build a stack you actually use.
